Newbury Art Concepts is pleased to announce its upcoming fall production, “Dracula” an adaptation of Bram Stokers novel, written by Susan E. Newbury. Show hits the boards in Rotary Hall from October 8th to October 19th, 2025, in the beautiful Chilliwack Cultural Centre. Newbury Art Concepts will be holding auditions for this adult oriented play on Friday, May 30th from 5 to 9 pm, Saturday, May 31st, from 12 to 4 pm with Callbacks taking place on Sunday, June 1st from 12 to 4 pm. We are looking for male and female actors ages 20 to immortality. Auditions to be held in the Choral Room at the Chilliwack Art Centre. Role Information

Vlad Dracula

A Transylvanian Prince, a decorated soldier in the war of the Ottoman Empire. Indeterminate of age. His age progression begins with him as a much older man, hobbled and slightly bent over only to end as a much younger man, strong and handsome. He is both human and monster at the same time. He has struggled with depression for many years due to loss the of his beloved Elizabeta, but he earned to live with his curse and madness by enjoying the finer things in life. He still longs for a companion that will never be with his three brides. He continues to search the world to fill his empty heart and thirst for blood, but must return to his homeland for survival. He is seductive and alluring. He captivates his victims through his gaze and supernatural force (assisted by a team of Nosferatu). Dracula is well versed, educated and well travelled. He is a collector of fine things and heirlooms from his past and his travels around the world.

Abraham Van Helsing

A dutch medical physician specializing in the supernatural, psychology, philosophy, and metaphysics. Thomas Seward’s mentor and educator. A sharp-witted man aged 55 to 60 years. He has a very small circle of colleagues that respect him due to his beliefs and theories. He teaches at the university in London. He is revolutionary and takes risks. He is highly intelligent, an analyst, a strategist and is fearless.

Jonathan Harker

A young, handsome newly appointed British solicitor aged between 25 and 30 years old. He works at Hawkins & Associates Law firm. He is hard-working and is committed both to work and to his personal life. Honest and true. He is slightly vulnerable and a conservative risk taker but embraces opportunities as they come. He is well-mannered and romantic. Middle class. He is engaged to Wilhelmina Murray.

Dr. Thomas Seward

A young, British doctor of psychiatry aged between 30 and 35 years of age. He is the resident doctor of a lunatic asylum. Thomas is well respected among his peers and has proven himself to be a reputable doctor. Dr. Seward is conservative and tends to favour normal routines that are comfortable and uncomplicated. He is Renfield’s doctor. He is engaged to Lucy Westenra.

Wilhelmina Murray

Mina is a young, beautiful, British woman aged between 20 and 30 years of age. She is a devoted friend and confidant to Lucy. The Westenra family have provided for Mina over the years. She is humble and shy in the beginning but transforms into a much bolder and stronger character by the end of the story. She is very intelligent and is well read. She has been able to extend her career from a governess to a formal tutor in English at the university in London. She is engaged to Jonathan Harker. She develops feelings of lust and love for Vlad Dracula.

Lucy Westenra

Lucy is a vivacious, British woman between 20 and 30 years of age. A woman of family wealth, and is a lover of the finer things in life. Lucy is playful, seductive, sassy, fun-loving and adventurous, perhaps a little spoiled. Lucy loves to push the boundaries. She is courting. She becomes engaged to Dr. Seward. She falls victim to Dracula.

Mr. Renfield

Renfield is a British solicitor at Hawkins & Associates Law firm. He is Jonathan’s mentor and is slightly older, a man of about 40 years of age. Renfield was traumatized by his experience on his last assignment in Transylvania. After Renfield returns from Castle Dracula, he has been institutionalized due to his troubled outbursts and absurd speech. He comes across as a lunatic or a madman, but in truth, he is aware and sane. Renfield is now dedicating his daily practises and life to his Master, Dracula.

Jack Morris

Jack is a strong, robust, single, American man. He is a suitor to Lucy. He is a born and bred Texan oil tycoon and a rancher who is slightly unrefined to British etiquette and customs. Jack is young and is between 25 to 30 years of age.

Nosferatu

The Nosferatu are mystical, demonic beings that help with the mechanics of the play. They provide the force and supernatural element to show the powers of Dracula. They may double as Dracula’s brides and other smaller characters in the story. The Nosferatu are fundamentally the key to evoking the fear in the characters when Dracula is present.

Smith

She has been with the Westenra’s household since Lucy was born as governess and nurse maid. She assists on many different occasions offering both emotional and physical support to family and friends. She is well loved by the family.

Other roles include

Old Woman, two sons, priest, nuns, two wardens, extra attendees at Lucy’s wake, The Westenra’s (Lucy’s parents), altar boys, at Basilica.

Set

The set switches between Southend-On-Sea at the Westenra’s residence, London, England at the Asylum, University classroom and Transylvania. The year is 1893.
